National Treasures in Hachinohe

Come meet National Treasures in Hachinohe!

There are three national treasures in Aomori Prefecture, all located within the city of Hachinohe.

Spots:  Kushihiki Hachiman Shrine and its National Treasure Hall; Korekawa Jomon Museum

The first national treasures you can see on this tour are two sets of samurai armor at Kushihiki Hachimangu Shrine, the most venerable shrine in the region. These beautiful armor sets were given by two different emperors to the lord of the Nanbu Family that ruled this area from the 14th to the 17th century. You’ll be fascinated by the intricate designs and vivid colors on the armor suits.
Kushihiki Hachimangu Shrine
Originating in 1222, most buildings on the shrine ground were built in 1648 and designated as National Important Cultural Property.
You’ll also visit the Korekawa Jomon Museum that houses the “Clay figurine with clasped hands” designated as a national treasure, (see above left photo). Many other clay figurines with unique expressions will welcome you.
The museum boasts having the largest collection of lacquered artifacts such as lacquered clay pots, lacquered wooden vessels, lacquered combs and earrings.
