On July 27, 2021, Jomon Prehistoric Sites in Northern Japan (17 sites) were added to World Cultural Heritage List. Eight of those sites are located in Aomori Prefecture, and one of those is Korekawa Site in Hachinohe. If you want to know about Jomon, read here.
Korekawa Jomon Museum & Michinoku Coastal Trail



In this tour, you can visit the Korekawa Jomon Museum that has the largest collection of the lacquered artifacts such as lacquered clay pots, lacquered wooden vessels, lacquered combs and earrings. Also, there is one clay figurine designated as a national treasure, “Clay figurine with clasped hands” (see above left photo). In addition to this figurine, the museum has fabulous Izumiyama Collection of clay figurines. After visiting the museum, you can spend the afternoon in the beautiful coastal area to get refresh air.

11:50 Depart from JR Hon-Hachinohe Station by local train
12:02 Arrive at “Same” or shark station. Walk to Kabushima, the breeding ground of black tail gulls, and pay a visit to the Kabushima Shrine.
