On July 27, 2021, Jomon Prehistoric Sites in Northern Japan (17 sites) were added to World Cultural Heritage List. Eight of those sites are located in Aomori Prefecture. If you want to know about Jomon, read here.
This tour includes one of those world heritage sites, Korekawa Site in Hachinohe City.
Hachinohe City, located in the southeast of Aomori Prefecture on the Pacific coast, is the second largest city in Aomori Prefecture. There are hundreds of archaeological sites in the city, and many unearthed artifacts including one clay figurine designated as the national treasure are exhibited at the Korekawa Jomon Museum. The neighboring town, Hashikami Town, also has a number of archaeological sites. The Michinoku Coastal Trail starts in Hachinohe through Hashikami Town, and runs all the way to the South, Fukushima Prefecture. In this tour, you can visit the Korekawa Jomon Museum, and visit a Japanese couple’s private house/pottery in Hashikami Town to see their Jomon artwork, and make your own Jomon clay figurine’s head. In addition, you will have lunch at a restaurant with ocean view and have one hour walk on the coastal trail.

Meet at your hotel in downtown Hachinohe. The tour starts using a van.

Visit the Korekawa Jomon Museum to enjoy a large collection of Jomon lacquerware, exquisite potteries, and a clay figurine with clasped hands designated as the national treasure.

Sakyo Pottery, Hashikami Town.
12:15 – 12:45
Terashita Kannon Temple/Shrine/Site.
13:00 – 14:00
Lunch at Aldiva or Tanesashi Sea Cafe.

Michinoku Coastal Trail Walk (2 km).

Return to Sakyo Pottery to bake the dried clay figurine’s heads to make a pendant.

Arrive at JR Hachinohe Station.
